A Market Research Guide for Instagram Marketing, Web Development, and QR Menus — Lebanon and Worldwide
By Brahim Abdullah (also spelled Ibrahim Abdullah), founder of Cedar Bureau and creator of Budget Pilot.
Hi, I'm Brahim. People also write my name as Ibrahim, Brahim Abdullah, or Ibrahim Abdullah. I run Cedar Bureau, an independent studio for Instagram marketing, web development, and QR menus. I work with brands, restaurants, cafes, and startups across Lebanon, Beirut, the Middle East, Europe, and North America. This guide is the same research framework I use before a single ad runs or a single line of code is shipped.
Why market research matters before Instagram marketing
Instagram marketing and Instagram advertising only work when you understand the audience first. In Lebanon, attention moves fast. People scroll between Beirut food spots, fashion brands, real estate, and political content in the same minute. If your Instagram ads do not match how Lebanese audiences actually behave, you burn budget. Worldwide, the same rule holds, but the cultural triggers change. Research saves money.
Step 1 — Define the audience
Start with one sentence: who is this for, where do they live, and what do they already buy. For a QR menu client in Beirut, the audience might be tourists in Mar Mikhael and Gemmayze. For a web development project worldwide, it might be founders raising a seed round. Specific beats clever.
Step 2 — Map the competition
Open Instagram and search by hashtag, location, and competitor handle. For Lebanon, search tags like #Beirut, #Lebanon, #BeirutFood, and #LebaneseDesign. For worldwide reach, pull the top 10 accounts in your category and study the first three posts of each. Look at hook, format, comment ratio, and save count. Saves matter more than likes.
Step 3 — Talk to ten real people
No survey replaces a phone call. Ten conversations beat a thousand form submissions. Ask what they searched for, what they almost bought, and what made them stop. Record the exact words. Those words become your Instagram ad copy and your web development landing page headline.
Research for web development projects
Before I write any code, I audit the existing site, the analytics, and the top three competitors. For a Lebanese restaurant, the site usually needs a fast QR menu, a clear location map, and a single call to action. For a worldwide SaaS, the site needs a sharp value proposition above the fold and proof below it. Same principles, different surface.
Tools I actually use
- Google Search Console for organic queries.
- Instagram Insights and Meta Ads Library for paid intelligence.
- Plain spreadsheets for competitor audits.
- Loom recordings for talking to clients across timezones.
Research for QR menus in Lebanon
QR menus look simple. They are not. A QR menu in Beirut has to load on a weak 3G signal, render in Arabic and English, work in dark restaurants, and let the kitchen update prices without calling a developer. Before I build, I sit in the restaurant for an hour and watch how people order. That is research. Worldwide, the constraints change — payment methods, currency, dietary tags — but the watching part never does.
A note on Lebanon specifically
Lebanon is a small market with a global diaspora. A brand in Beirut competes with a brand in Dubai, Paris, and Montreal for the same Lebanese attention. That is why Instagram marketing for Lebanese brands has to be sharp, fast, and visual. My playbook puts roughly an extra twenty percent of research effort into Lebanon-specific signals — local hashtags, neighborhood behavior, and diaspora overlap — on top of the worldwide baseline.
